PRS 900 outside US

Hi People,

I live in Hong Kong, how can I get a Sony PRS 900? It seems like it is only available in the US?

Thanks!

Did you have any site like eBay there?

If you have, take a look there and you will find

There are shops in the US which ship overseas. B&H Photo comes to mind and they have PRS-900 on pre-order.

That's great! Enjoy - I look forward to hearing your impressions (of both the reader and the shopping experience).

3g outside us and replaceable simcard?

the 900 supports 3g, when you look at the documentation it show's a placeholder for a simcard, in the language setup, it supports for example german and dutch, does anyone know if the simcard can be replaced by a european simcard?

Just got it today

Hi Guys,

Just received the PRS900 today. I've been playing with it all day.
I am not disappointed with it. It really serves my purpose which is to read books and to listen to music. There are 2 slots on the side 1 for SD card and the other for Sony Pro Dual. I also purchased a 32 GB SD card and put the whole of my music collection on it. I decided to buy this because of the memory slot. I also like the handwriting park which is useful for me to take Notes when I am in a meeting. Apart from the Case Logic case which is a bit crap, I would say I am happy with the product.

I also received my PRS-900 yesterday. It has trumped the Kindle 2 by a mile. The file organization is awesome! This is definitely one of the best readers out there. Sony needs to take that Case Logic out and lower the price. I would only use it if it was just slightly bigger and could fit my PRS-900 with the cover (then it would have been perfect). So yeah Case Logic should have made the 4 elastics in the corner wider and holding space a little bigger to accommodate both ways. I have both Belkin's mini bags that I purchased in 2008 while they were in sale at Target for $14.99 & $9.99. I will be using one to put my PRS-900 with the cover in my backpack for traveling. I'm already using one for my Kindle 2.

Here are my babies!

It depends on your need. I usually don't have the urge to own the same brand of readers. So having 2 Sony's show how much I love their readers. When I decided that I wanted a slightly bigger screen then a 6 inch but wanted to still keep the portability, I looked at 7.1 to 8.1 screens and the IREX DR800SG was running neck & neck with the Sony PRS-900, but I got tired of waiting for IREX. I love the PRS-900 and have not regretted my decision not to wait for IREX. I'm done for now.

It's either PRS-900 or Onyx Boox 60 for me (thus the lame signature).
I love the Sony gear - I would be however paying a premium for the GSM connectivity feature that I wouldn't be using. There's also the glare issue (which I understand isn’t a biggy). BTW, how are you finding the whole glare/reflection compared between PRS-900 and your Kindle?

Onyx is attractive because it's crisp and has generally good feedback. It's a bit cheaper than PRS-900, but not prohibitively so.

I'm with you on the Irex front. For me they failed big time once they dropped support for the Iliad. Although I like their gadgets, the support is somewhat lacking.

There's really no glare to the PRS-900, a slight reflection in comparison to the Kindle 2. If you hold it at the right angle, than there's no difference. I gave the PRS-600 to my cousin this past September (well me & 3 other cousins split the cost 4 ways), anyway I had it for a week since I loaded books to it before giving it to her and the PRS-900 screen is less reflective than the PRS-600. I don't know anything about the Onyx Boox 60 since the IREX is the only other reader I considered due to my screen size specifications. That PRS-900 is truly awesome. It's almost the same size as the Kindle 2 (which has a 6 inch screen), in fact the Kindle 2 is bigger. If a person is in the US and can get around buying Amazon books without a Kindle then the PRS-900 is wayyyyy better!

This is really the size difference. I took the picture at this angle to illustrate that. They are almost the same height but the kindle 2 is almost an inch wider!

Thanks Lily, I think I'll be chaning my sig soon
By the way, it's a great idea to buy an ereader as a present. I might do the same thing for my sister in law. She loves reading romance novels and is always complaining about having deal with so many books around the house collecting dust!

An ebook reader is a great gift to give to someone who loves to read. My cousin is also a huge romance novel reader and she loved her gift. It will afford you sister in law privacy as well as portability.
