Hello all! I'm here to get input to help me decide on what my first ereader should be!
Basically what I want is the best ereader for annotating. I want to be able to underline, highlight, write in the margins, make seperate notes, circle things, draw on the page, etc. I understand that this means the best way to go is irex, but that's just too much money. Second most important thing is readability of textbooks, other books and personal documents put on the device. I NEED a reader that lets me mark up my own files. That's an absolute requirement I can't bend on. Last is I'd really like a device with expandable memory, but I suppose I can live without that.... Thanks for the help! |

Nothing there yet. You'll have to wait. Computers are the best you'll find for your purposes in the immediate future. Perhaps the B&N Que to be announced next month will be just the ticket, but I wouldn't bet on it. Ebook readers are not very good input devices...including the iRex stuff. They're much more for passive reading with a limited amount of input functionality.

In your position, I'd be taking a look at tablet pc's - probably older models, as they should be discounted and it doesn't need the latest CPUs, etc for annotation, etc.
You're not going to find anything other than the irex's in the ebook reader line that are going to be anywhere near what you want for the annotation side of things, and even the reading of text books isn't going to be all that good on the smaller screened devices. The Kindle DX might be OK for your reading requirements, but it's not going to be anywhere regarding the annotations, as I understand it, so I suspect you need to look at the alternatives for the next year or two, at least! |
