Not sure you read that I got my reader 12 days ago now - Yeah!!!!!!!!. All is fine, except - i think i have developped an addiction. No, wait - i already was addicted to books. But now that I have discovered the world of eBooks and the muuuuuch cheaper prices I pay and the freebies, not to mention the freebies I have gone completly bonkers.

Since I got my reader (12 days ago, in case u missed it

) I have downloaded (free and purchased) over 600 books

Is this gonna stop? Is there a helpgroup if not? I have now changed the bank password so hubby can't check the cc statement. Will have to beat him to the letterbox too. How do I stop it? Will I get more selective? Or is this it for me?

Have you had similar experience and went wild? How did you stop it?

Start reading some of the books. Don't buy more until you've read most of them.

you need to have someone change YOUR password so you stop spending like that! seriously! back away from the online store! those books (and many more!) will be there tomorrow, next week and next year!

I've limited myself to two full purchase price purchased books a month for now because it's kind of broke in my life currently. fully explore the free books, there are quite a few! I don't know about the Sony, but we have a thread in the Kindle section that is "free and inexpensive books". these are .99 and under books, and there are some very good reads! some dreck, sure, but some good stuff!

And if you want to read the classics for free, then take a look in our upload section. There are some mysteries by Conan Doyle, Dorothy Sayers, etc. Also loads of other genres.

ravenne is right. there is no cure. you just have to learn to live with it. luckily, the free books should help keep the spending down. you could also join the "no buying challenge" (ok, november is almost over, but you could extend it if you wanted). just stick around in here, we'll lock the door to the bookshop for you.

Yep, there is a cure. Sort of.

Its called MobileRead, lounge or otherwise.

Hang around here enough and you won't have time to read.

But you'll still download books...........

I'm afraid it's true. There is no cure. But as others have said, there are ways to mitigate the affects of the addiction and one of them is spending time here in the Lounge. Another is having all connectivity to any place other than MR's Lounge expunged from your computer system.

I hope you didn't actually PURCHASE 600 books (well unless you're a multimillionaire!)

I presume they are tons of classics like from here and google books and feedbooks etc.

Still, 600 books? I think it's time to do some reading.

Ok, while you've definitely got me beat - it took me a lot longer to acquire 600 books than 12 days - I see nothing odd about your behavior. As long as you're not spending yourself into bankruptcy court, go for it!
One of the first things I plan to do if we ever win the lottery is clear my wishlists at all the ebookstores. There aren't 600 titles on there, but it would still be quite a chunk.
