Wotcha.
Got myself a shiny new wet-stone grinder for sharpening chisels, knives, etc... Sharpened up my camping knife on it, and decided to see if it really was "shaving sharp"..... So I shaved with it. ![]() Question. Am I mad? |

Yetis are meant to be hairy. So, yes, you are a bit mad, I think.

I agree -- Yeti's are meant to be hairy! I *loooove* the accent, Mr Yeti! (anglofile over here). Glad AM was standing by in case this turned into a suicide film. AND I'm glad it didnt' turn into that!

i think you are definitely a bit mad, but i'm not sure what that has to do with your choice of shaving kit.

I am of the opinion that all real men shave their chests with their camping knives in the local pub. But I am impressed with the turbo mode that your knife has whenever you're actually shaving with it. I don't think my razor does that.

You are crazy! Yeti's don't go camping, thus a Yeti would have no "camping knife".

Knife shaving is doable but not easy to keep up, and not really worthwhile. The edge geometry of pretty much all knives is suboptimal for shaving, regardless how sharp the edge itself is. It needs honing more often and forces a steeper angle relative to the skin in order to cut close.
The curve/belly of a blade can also be a risk, and generally due to uneven pressure on the skin, can result in a few extra "weepers" (as you seemed to get in your video) and patches of irritated skin. Risk goes up a lot if you do a complete 3-pass shave. I've shaved with a knife before too and I don't think it's "mad"...it's just not the ideal tool for the job. Do it 5 or 6 times and your skin adjusts to it a little, but it never becomes particularly pleasant. I'll stick with my Feather Artist Club instead. |
