Foreign Affairs subscription - I don't understand the pricing.

Again apologies if this is a stupid question or me not understanding something straightforward.

On this page: http://www.amazon.com/Foreign-Affair...=A7B2F8DUJ88VZ

The Bi-monthly price appears to be $3.99.

However, on the right-hand side of the screen, underneath the 'Subscribe Now' box, there is the 'Single Edition' purchase box, which lists the current edition as being $9.99.

Why is a single edition listed as being more than twice the cost of one bi-monthly subscription payment

So - an annual subscription would be just under $24, which is less than the cost of 3 individual copies???????

Am I missing something or am I just too tired to see the logic of this?

Best Wishes
David

I suspect the individual price was a mistake.

Looking now, I see i as showing $1.99 monthly subscription for a bi-monthly magazine, and individual issues are $5.99

So that's $35.94 buying individually or $23.88 as a subscription. A pretty good discount, but not unbelievable.

For me here in the UK - it is still showing as $3.99 per bi-monthly subscription and $9.99 as an individual copy.

Oh yes, how interesting.

I suppose the question is whether that $3.99 is really a bi-monthly payment, or whether it's a monthly payment (as the US payment seems to be). I suspect the latter.

Which makes it, unsurprisingly, much more expensive in the UK than in the US.

I just took a look at a different (monthly) magazine - Analog, Science Fiction and Fact.

In the US it's $2.99 a month, or $3.49 per issue
In the UK it's $5.99 a month, or $6.99 per issue.

It's a shame Foreign Affairs isn't available at Fictionwise. The Analog subscription there is just $2.75/month (or less for club members), even if you're in the UK.

Actually they bill $1.99 each month. I suppose I could cancel the subscription in the off months and reinstate in the on months and save a couple of bucks. But then again, that'd be an awful lot of work for two bucks....

So, as I said above an annual subscription for 6 copies is just under 24 dollars - 3 individual copies costs in the region of $30.00

This just seems a much larger differential than I would have expected.

It's a stuff up for sure, the individual price is way too high. You could contact Amazon about it, I am sure it's wrong unless they REALLY want to push people towards the longer subscriptions.

The answer is clear, don't buy an individual copy. Their price is foolish; that's their problem, not yours. I subscribe, and it's a good deal.
