				Hello and Advice

Hello, I am new to this forum. I am also new to the idea of ebooks. Just a few days ago, I was introduced to a Kindle (2) ebook with hands on viewing. I am an avid reader, sometimes reading 2-3 books at the same time. I am also a traditional "hard copy" book and newspaper in the hand. So, this ebook experience is new. I would like to hear from those of you who has transferred from hard copy to ebook reading. And, I would like to know which of the ebooks most of you liked. I appear to be leaning toward Kindle2, since I have handled it. And, it is also appealing in that it has a keyboard and internet (ready) access.

Welcome to the forum! I was an early adopter of ebooks having bought the original Rocket ebook before they were bought out by Gemstar. I just recently bought a Sony PRS-600 and am enjoying it very much. My decision to go with the Sony was made because of the support for the epub and pdf formats. I learned with the Rocket ebook that proprietary formats limit your choices when it comes to buying books. Also, if they go out of business like the Rocket and Gemstar ebooks did then you are stuck with a format that can only be read by that reader. Again, welcome and happy reading. |

Greetings and welcome to the forum. I have the Kindle1 and have worked with friends Kindle2 and the new Aztak 5" ereader, plus I know that many forum members love their Sonys. I don't think you can go wrong with any of them. The biggest question is where will you be getting your ebooks. If you want to purchase them, then the K2 is probably a good choice as Amazon has good book prices. If you want to get them from a public library, then unless you buy a Sony (or perhaps the Aztak), you will need to convert the book or remove the DRM to be able to read it on your Kindle. I get mostly library books and find this an easy process, however. I found that it took less than a week before I preferred reading from my Kindle versus paper books, just from the convenience. I travel a great deal so having all my books with me in a tiny little package is heaven. Let us know what you decide. cheers |

Welcome to MobileRead, drjrwalton97! First of all, I just want to clarify that "ebooks" are actually the files that we read on our reading devices or computers. I say that just to make sure you are actually seeking information on the reading devices themselves. In MR's Wiki, there is a great comparison chart, the Ebook Reader Matrix that shows the available readers with their specifications which may be helpful to you. I love ereading and hate it when I have to wait for a book to be released in ebook form. I just think electonic readers are incredibly convenient. I am on my third reader, the last two of which are the Sony 700 and 600. Good luck. Happy Reading! |

Welcome! Yes check the Ebook Reader Matrix. I chose the Sony over the Kindle because of the Epub format which Kindle does not support. |
