300 ac adapter question
The 300 charges well with the mini usb ac adapter for my phone and mp3 player. The adapter is 5v 1a output and I believe the dumb usb plug adapters are the same.
I have a usb to barrel-end adapter that came with my gps that is 3.3v 110mA. The barrel-end plug fits in my 300 and the red charging light comes on. I can't identify the plug tip type or what the 300 requires and wanted to know if it will damage the 300 to use it? It looks the same as some I've looked at online, but it's black instead of yellow which is what the Sony adapter is. I could use it plugged into my pc without syncing or my usb plug adapter and would be a nice backup. Anyone know what tip type the readers use? |

The readers use a 5.2 V A/C adapter but most users use a cheaper PSP (PlayStationPortable) charger which is 5.0 V and works fine.
Charger tip should be yellow. I'm not sure if using a lesser voltage will damage the reader or not. |

Are you quite certain that your PRS-300 charges with a USB mains adaptor? Unless the PRS-300 is different, no other Sony Reader does!

You seem to have found the only USB mains adaptor in the world which does work, in that case

To answer your original question, the plug that fits the Sony PRS, PSP et al is the EIAJ-02. It is an industry standard, and is available from many sources. The Radio Shack Adaptaplug equliavent is Size B. They also sell a two pack for hobyists (Model: 274-1532 | Catalog #: 274-1532) if you are comfortable with soldering and want to build your own cable/adapter. |
