PRS-300 review

Hi guys and gals,
I posted my review of the PRS-300 on MobileTechReview earlier this week, but I've been too busy to get over here and let you all know.

At any rate, here it is: http://www.mobiletechreview.com/gadg...er-PRS-300.htm .

Holy moly... between the navigation and ads on the left and the ads on the right, there is only enough room left for a thin column for the actual article. The navigation and ads take up more room than the article! And you have peppered the article with rollover ads? Bah...

No thanks... dedicate room to the article (without rollover ads) and I'll read... continue to overwhelm your site with ads and forget it. I won't be going back there any time soon.

You're forgetting that Astak's 5" Reader has chipping paint. And the detail on the glare of the 600 screen is pretty minimal. There was this one article probably written by some jaded reviewer about the 300 and 600 that put Sony in it's place (Even has pictures of glare comparison). The page to me just seems like a product pitch than an actual review because it has the Purchase links on the right of the page.

Unless we start charging for access to our reviews (something I'd never want to do) there will be ads on the website. Interstitial ads, banner ads and links just like other big websites. I might not like them either but that's how we stay in business. That's how it works with commercial websites you know-- there's staff to pay, big hosting bills for dedicated servers and we spend a few thousand dollars to buy these readers for review, not to mention tens of thousands of dollars to buy all the other kinds of things we review on our site.

It would be rosy if Sony and Amazon sent us their products to review, but they don't. Since we're dedicated to readers and reviews of them, I buy them for review. Reading and eBook readers are actually my fave things.

Hi Lisa, thank you for your review of the Sony 300 Pocket Reader. I received mine yesterday from the Sony Canada online store, and I am very, very happy with it. I have read ebooks on other devices, beginning with a Pocket PC, up to the iPod Touch, but this is my first dedicated ereader. I must say I find the display astonishing! I could swear I was looking at a printed page! I think the Sony Reader is going to get me reading a lot more, and I think this is the future of books.

Glad to hear it, Ian! I remember reading eReader books on my Dell Axim way back when. When I upgraded to a VGA Toshiba e805 Pocket PC, I though I was in ebook heaven. What a different world now, and pretty much the only time that a color display isn't king.
