... I was trying to find whether there was any further version info anywhere, but I couldn't find anything. I downloaded this version today.
Trying to run on my Mac Pro, it doesn't detect my Sony Reader PRS 500. I found some help in these forums and ran this command: Code:
> calibre-debug -d USB devices on system: [(1452, 32773, 272), (1356, 667, 256), (1452, 32773, 272), (1523, 129, 800), (1523, 7, 800), (1452, 32773, 272), (1118, 71, 768), (1452, 33286, 6501), (1452, 32773, 272), (1452, 32774, 512)] ioreg output saved to /tmp/ioreg.txt Looking for BEBOOK Looking for BEBOOK_MINI Looking for BLACKBERRY Looking for CYBOOKG3 Looking for EB600 Looking for ILIAD Looking for IREXDR1000 Looking for JETBOOK Looking for KINDLE Looking for KINDLE2 Looking for KINDLE_DX Looking for PRS500 Looking for PRS505 Looking for PRS700 Looking for ANDROID Looking for CYBOOK_OPUS Looking for COOL_ER Looking for ESLICK Device possibly connected: <calibre.devices.prs500.driver.PRS500 object at 0x4405b30> Trying to open device... failed Opening of the following devices failed <calibre.devices.prs500.driver.PRS500 object at 0x4405b30> Traceback (most recent call last): File "/Applications/calibre.app/Contents/Resources/lib/python2.6/site-packages.zip/calibre/debug.py", line 135, in debug_device_driver dev.open() File "calibre/devices/prs500/driver.pyo", line 250, in open DeviceError: Unable to find SONY Reader. Is it connected? Don't forget to send the file /tmp/ioreg.txt as well It seems like my reader is found, but can't be talked to. I also found posts somewhere in the forums that suggested I should see the a "drive" mounted for the reader or even a second one for its memory card -- I don't get either of these, not on the Mac Pro and not on my MacBook either. I've had this reader for a long time, but it has always been attached to Windows machines in the past, using Sony's software. Worked fine back then, but that's why I don't have a clue what exactly I should expect on the Mac. Just to be sure, I just attached the reader to a Windows machine and it still works like it used to. The Mac Pro runs OS X 10.5.8, btw, the MacBook is on 10.6. If you need any further info, please ask! |

A PRS 500 wont appear as a disk drive, but calibre should still be detecting it. Open a ticket for it.

Is the USB driver for the 500 installed?

I guess it may not be - first time I hear there's a USB driver for the Mac for the PRS-500. Where do I get it from?

The 500 does not mount as a removable disk. So it needs a driver for the computer to talk to it.

Well, that is strictly speaking true - you may call the component in calibre that has the job of talking to the reader a driver. But there's no driver on the OS level for the Mac, and I'm pretty certain it shouldn't be needed. Apparently the fact that the PRS-500 doesn't show up in Finder is not an indicator that something's wrong -- the PRS-500 probably doesn't support whatever USB spec is required for stuff to look like a file system to the computer.
