Pocket Pro USB
![]() I flashed the 09/10/2009 update, which went well since I placed the bin file via a SD card slot on my desktop system. When I plug the USB cable in, the PP charges as expected and a message comes up asking if I want to connect. I press OK (really the "menu" button.) and the display indicates it is in PC mode. XP bongs and then a message comes up saying "Linux gadget has caused a USB fault" or "One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned". I then moved the USB cable to a machine running Ubuntu Linux and I connected ![]() I move back to a Windows and the error is now solidly "Malfunction" while I write this message. Is this a known problem or do I have a hardware failure? |

There have been a couple of reports of problems, see Who Will be First to Get theirs???. All I can suggest is trying a different cable and/or a different USB port. Since you are seeing this on two computers, you may have to send the Pocket Pro back.
I have had no major problems once I switched to the provided USB cable, however I sometimes have to remove and reconnect the USB cable to get the Pocket Pro to recognize that there is a computer connected (rather than a power-only connection). My laptop is relatively old, but the Pocket Pro's USB does seem more flaky than that on the EZ Reader Basic. |

I went to Fry's and got another USB cable.
The problem IS the USB connector on the PP. If I keep upward pressure, I can see the "Linux USB Gadgets" and files on the SD card. (If I let up, even for a moment, I am xxx) I will see if I can drop by and get a replacement as I work very close by. ![]() |

This seems to be an isolated incident, as I've not seen anyone else complain of this problem. It's abundantly fortunate that it was sent to one so close to their office.
While you're there, see if you can hear squaking coming from a closet of something. I think Robertb is keeping him locked up!! |

I have reported in another thread USB behaviour inconsistency. For me is the provided USB cable that is not working (on several computers). I must resort to my own proven cables.
But I'm used to USB mysteries (portable hard drives anyone?), and with the right cable it works like a charm. |

Thanks all
My brand new cable was only slightly better. I have also locked up the unit many times, so this on may have serious issues inside. Other weird reading operations: HTM files: “Vampires,” renders as Vampires,, Note open quotes disappear and close quotes duplicate the previous character. ![]() |

Could be how the quotes are coded into the HTML. Are they just typed as a quote or as code or as something weird Word or some other program put in?

I am pretty sure it is the connector and not 2 different cables.
Another issue is the Bezel is starting to blister. ![]() There was green sealant near the led hole that is now pealing. |

Are you sure that this isn't just a plastic film for protection? Does it just peal off? Same with the green sealant?

It is Shiny Blue under it. I am worried that the Silk Screen on the buttons will suffer (Yes, it is on the buttons).
If it is supposed to be removed like the clear film on the display, it really needs to be labeled "Remove Before Use" . ![]() ![]() Robert, didn't I read that these were to have a matte finish? ASTAK may have been had. This looks like a "Spray on Matte" and it is not surviving my fingerprints. |

That blistering looks like a manufacturing defect. If you haven't contacted Astak support yet, I would do so and ask for a replacement unit.
