You know its inevitable..

a sony with the same or better 505 screen and faster processor than the 600 will come out one day.

patience is what is required. And I am struggling with that.

hey, dont' forget that you know it's inevitable that a sony with a color screen and is only 1mm thick AND will roll up will come out one day.

Unfortunately, true.
So, go and get some good ebook reader for yourself instead of waiting.

Though, I am going to keep my 505 and wait for a better sony model.

Someday, someone, somewhere will release a digital book that I just need to insert into a slot in my head giving me complete recollection of a book I never had to actually read.

Or a Teddy Bear automaton that will read to me.

Oh wait... they already invented that.

In "Foundations Edge," by Isaac Asimov, The Foundation sends Councilman Trevize and Scientist Pelorat on a mission. Pelorat is amazed that his entire library of books fits on "one small chip" that he could insert into a reader.

This book was written in 1991 - The year after Windows 3.0 was first shipped. Sometimes you have to wait a REALLY long time for a vision to happen.

ONCDOC - glad you have something to read in the meantime. The sony 600 is my first.

I've had the newest readers for the most part since the PRS-500 was introduced. When the 505 released, I sold the 500 and got it....spent a couple bucks more, but it was worth the upgrade. When the 700 was released, I had bought it, put the 505 up for sale and pulled it and returned it immediately as the screen was not to my liking. Then the 600 released, and I havent turned back.....

Point is I have been able to upgrade all my electronics at minimal costs because sales forums and Ebay is your friend No need to wait for the next best thing, because the next best thing is always around the corner.

I forgot about that until you mentioned it! I remember thinking that was very cool and I wished for something like it. Ha, and now I do! Science fiction rules!

There's an article in the October-November Asimov's talking about science fiction and technology. She refers to a book, Physics of the Impossible, which posits that there are three types of tech in SF --

Class I - Techologies which are impossible today, but don't violate laws of physics

Class II - Tech which sits at the edge of our understanding, which may take thousands of years to eventuate

Class III - Breaking the law of known physics

Some of the things she mentions in the Class I variety are cool, like invisibility cloaks and whatnot, but if this article'd been written twenty years ago it would have been e-readers, for sure!

I like this xkcd reference to H2G2 as a "fulfillment" a bit better Though it is a Kindle reference, it's pretty amusing.
