thermal experiences - bug or feature?

Yesterday was the second time having a "thermal" Problem (?) with my DR1000.

The reader lay in a mix from shadow and sun. The reader was off. The reader itself within his protective cover was heaten up a little bit - hand warm.

Then I wanted to read - but the reader did not start. No chance, even with reset, etc. pp. Later at home, when the reader was cooled down - everything worked fine again.

I said - this was the second time: the first was a few weeks ago, when the reader lay at top of my PC, heaten up the same way - hand warm - and did not start up until it was colled down.

Have anyone had the the same experience yet and - the biggest question - is this a bug or a feature protecting the device?

I have the same experience with my iLiad. Everytime I read in the sun, the e-ink screen will get blur.

Yes. It happened in the hot sun.

However, I had the problem that the reader wouldn't restart for some 10 minutes even with reset several times since then, even though I kept away from extreme temperatures. It might be confusion about the battery status on the part of the reader, but that's only a guess.

My Sony reader's screen darkened noticeably when reading in the sun (which is, of course, supposed to be one of the advantages of eInk) but it recovered quickly. I haven't repeated the experiment with the DR1000, at least not for extended periods of time.

I think there are two different issues being discussed.

(1) The DR wouldn't boot after being exposed to the sun. The question is, is there something in it that is preventing it from starting up based on temperature.

(2) eInk screens temporarily fade when exposed to direct sunlight. This is a known problem and is true of eInk in general, not really specific to any device.

(1) That's my experience. Bug or feature?
(2) Haven't had any problems with until now.
