Sony PRS-600 Dictionary

If you have used PRS-600, could you tell us whether the dictionary works seamlessly in a pdf document?

Thanks.

YAY! Now I need an Italian version of the dictionary hacked in somehow. My Italian is atrocious (and how embarrassing is it to be a citizen and not speak the language).

And I need a Spanish dictionary.

Unfortunately the images on the 600 flasher are encrypted according to Igorsk. That will probably make hacking much more difficult. I'm hoping that some of the coders will chime in with their opinions of the possibility of a dictionary hack. I would buy a 600 tomorrow if I believed I had a reasonable chance of being able to use a custom dictionary. I would certainly be willing to contribute financially for, and help test, a 600 dictionary hack.

It works seamlessly with the PDF documents I have loaded into my 600.

Thanks for all the responses. I ordered and got one yesterday. It was really impressive device and I really like it.

Regarding the dictionary, however, I think it is rather limited. For instance, within the dictionary I cannot go forward into another word definition. For another, if a word is a variant (e.g., plural), the dictionary don't recognize it. Even for another, some words in a pdf document were not recognized corretly or at all.

Even with these limitations, I think, PRS-600 is one of the best e-book reader.

I'm not sure if this is what you mean, but you can manually look up words by double tapping on any word, then tapping on the definition excerpt below, then on the keyboard icon.

If I'm not mistaken, plurals sometimes do get recognized. What never gets recognized (and this really annoys me) is adverbs. It shouldn't be too hard to have those direct to the definitions of the matching adjectives (the same word without '-ly' or with '-ble' instead of '-bly' ). Hopefully this will be fixed in a coming firmware update.

Yes, I think only some adverbs are not recognized if you look up them in a Sony ebook. If you try to look up words in a badly formatted pdf document, some words are not recognized correctly or at all.

I hope these are fixed soon. For instance, if a word is not listed in the definitions, some closely related words may be displayed so that we can select one.

In addition, I hope the dictionaries are accessible without in a book. This will help use use the device as an electronic dictionary.

I just got mine today and although I haven't played with it much, I believe that you can go forward in the dictionary if you tap the keyboard icon and delete some of the letters of the word in question. As you delete it brings up all the words that have the prefix or first part of the word in it.
