Only Recognizes PRS-500 as Root
I assume this is a mounting issue, but when I have the PRS-500 and run Calibre as a regular user it can't locate the device. When I run as root, it does. Any ideas why? This is on the newest version of Linux Mint. Fresh install.

You need read-write access to the device node (try adding your user account to plugdev, disk, usb etc) groups or do an
ls -l /dev/sd? to see what group is needed |

I am having this same problem. I am running Fedora 12 and installed Calibre 0.6.51 from the Calibre website. I have an non-updated Sony 500. It is found if I run Caliibre from root, but not from my user account. In the terminal it repeats the following error:
Quote:
I have added my user to plugdev, usb, and disk (I had to create plugdev and usb). ls -l /dev/sd? returns: Quote:
I have also tried ls -l /dev and the list is identical whether or not the Reader is plugged in. |

unupgraded prs500's don't create disk device nodes. You have to look in /sys/bus/usb for the device nodes.
