New PRS-505 turns itself ON. And makes noises
Hi,
I got my PRS-505 less than 2 weeks ago. Very nice.

After 3 or 4 days it started to make crackling noises when the screen changes or I set a bookmark. It is very noticeable.

Then, a few days ago I turned it off using the Device Shutdown menu option and about 5 seconds later it was back on. It now does this about one time in three when I use the Device Shutdown. The slider works OK.

I've tried the reset button. No change.

Any ideas?

It shouldn't make noise. Sounds to me like you have some fault in the circuitry.

It didn't start for a few days but it does it fairly constantly now. It sounds a bit like a TV tube or a tiny hard disk.

I have just about decided to try for a replacement.

Just an update.

Well, I got my replacement PRS-505 OK, thank you Douglas at John Lewis.

My old one was more faulty than I thought. The new one has a much more contrasty screen, the power switch has a nice positive click, and the battery life is MUCH better. And it is RED.
