booting problems

Hi all

Have gone through alot of the threads pertaining to bootup problems. But for me not alot is working at the moment.

1) Ereader 505 freezes for unknown reason while looking at a picture. Could have been low battery, but didnt know about freezing/battery problems at this time
2) pressed reset button and it shut down
3) turned on freezes on "Starting Up" screen, LED is constant orange (no blinking)
4) have fully charged from AC (until red light turns itself off)
5) pressed reset button
6) still freezes on "Starting Up" screen, LED is constand orange (no blinking)

so stuck in the "Starting Up" screen, but whats different to other threads is that the LED is constant orange and not blinking

1) press reset
2) connect USB cable
3) toggle power switch
The Reader should boot into "USB Connected" screen, which will allow you to browse the Reader's drive and delete the offending file.

* If the device is on, slide the "Power" so that it turns off. Look for a small pinhole on the back panel (not the side, that's the charging indicator LED) and press the reset button on the back using a bent paper clip (do not use anything sharp like a pin).
* Slide the "Power" button to turn it on. While the screen displays "Starting up ...", you will see the light above the "Power" button flash in yellow. Wait for 35 to 40 seconds, then proceed to hold down the "MARK" and "VOL +" buttons.

(NOTE on the PRS505, do not wait those 35~40 seconds, push and hold the "Mark" and "VOL +" buttons immediately -- the boot window is shorter on 505s)

* CONTINUE TO keep these 2 buttons pressed for about 5 to 10 seconds, until the round "PAGE" button makes a quick blue flash.
I cant turn it off unless, I press the reset then the orange light goes out. Holding down the "MARK" and "VOL +" buttons for over 1 min straight after turning on after reset does nothing.

toggle power switch, doesnt change the LED color (red) or screen ("Starting Up") when connected to the PC

Got an AC charger (PSP charger)?

Plufg that in and then try booting. It _might_ be stalling due to low battery.

yes, got an AC charger, have charged with AC charger until red light goes out already

So I should have the AC charger plugged in and then also the USB to PC plugged in at the sametime?

so with the AC power plugged in and the reader off.
1) Turning on, gives same results as before, "Starting Up" screen and constant orange LED
2) Connecting the USB to PC, the reader turns automatically on, but gives same results as before, "Starting Up" screen and constant orange LED

with AC power plugged in, and red LED off (fully charged)

Do hard reset as above, but dont get anything. There is no flashing orange LED, onlz constant orange LED and as the screen flashes and starts up, press the Mark and vol + for over 1 min, but nothing

Well, I guess the only thing left to try is 10 resets and reflashing of firmware.

through more investigation, I have 3 laptops and the eReader is not recognised by any of them.

I believe due to the eReader not booting up properly, the USB part of that boot process is never loaded.

So cant flash it if I cant connect to it??

I left the Ereader plugged in all night to the AC charger, even though the red light would go out everytime after a couple of mins.

This morning, turned it on again and to my supprise the orange light started to flash and didnt stay constantly orange like before. The screen then popped up with tried to update firmware but failed, please try again, because it was not connected to the computer.

I connected it to the computer (PC recognised the Ereader) and then the screen changed to updating firmware. I left it for 20 mins, but no change.

I then started up the firmware upgrade program for the latest firmware, which recognised the Ereader this time, not like before. It showed that the current firmware was 0.0.0.0 etc.

So I then proceeded to update it and have now left it running at home as I had to go to work (trying to ensure that power settings of laptop doesnt allow it to go into standby)
