BEST format for 505 epub or LRF
I'm confused and need your help. Which format is the best epub or LRF !
What are the advantages and disadvantages of them. I did font hack and went with LRF because I thought it was sony native format and would have faster page turns, faster zoom formatting times, and save battery so I would have longer battery life. Is epub just as good and is there any advantages of it over LRF? I'm still a newbie since I have only had the 505 a month or so, some of you guys know a lot more than me. Share your experience with the rest of us. Thanks |

Personally I like LRF because of Full Justification of text... I was an ePub fan until I realized that LRF could do this.. So I just convert the book I want to read to LRF with calibre..

Both LRF and ePub are for your 505 without needing conversion. I prefer ePub.
Actually, I was just musing in another post about how much I like rtf. It will always be my very favorite format. Anything that I can copy and drag onto a MSWord doc can be saved as rtf, then just pop it onto your 505. And the format will be preserved and show on your reader. No muss, no fuss. |

ePub is actually best. For one thing, LRF is unique to Sony. So if you get a different reader later on, ePub will most likely still be usable. But LRF won't be unless it's a Sony. So say you got your spouse an EZ Reader, then the ePub you have on your Sony will work on the EZ Reader. ePub is a forward thinking format, LRF is a dead end format.

If you are converting a non-DRM file you already own, I like lrf. If you are purchasing, I would buy EPUb. You want to purchase ebooks that you can read on any reader. You never know what might happen in the future and you don't want to be locked in. I purchase LIT books and convert to lrf using Calibre. If I download from here, I download in lrf.

I've yet to really see any performance differences between the two formats. If people know of some benchmarks, I'd love to see them.
I have both epub and lrf on mine, and really I prefer epub, simply because it is an open format, that is supported by things other than the ereader. I still have my N800 with FBReader, so I'd like to be able to have my stuff on that too. |

I have both. I keep an ePub as the master but I convert to LRF and read that on the sony since it's better supported.

Also, LRF is a Sony only format and ePub is going to be on more readers so going epub means you don't have to do yet another conversion if you switch readers. |

On a side note ll remember how much I struggled to get my word documents to show up on the reader only to realize the technical limitations of RTF and SONY's false advertisement that the PRS read MS Word documents.... no I'm not bitter ![]() =X= |

PDF here. RTF second, LRF and EPUB I guess tied for third.

I prefer LRF because I like the look of the books (justification). Also it seems to be faster when switching font sizes (something I do a lot).
I don't worry about what might happen in the future when I get a different device, because I rarely re-read books. There are very few e-books on my "keeper" shelf. |

It's 50/50 at this posting.
Thanks for the feedback , also I didn't realize .rtf format worked as is on 505. If you still have good reasons or tips on best format for 505 keep them coming. |

I prefer LRF because of the full justification and it does not have numbers in the side margin. I keep my source files as html for backup so I can convert to other formats in the future.
