Kindle at the gym.
Took my DX to the gym today. I like that it can fit a lot more in small type so that it takes less page turns, but I'm still thinking of getting a K2 for portabilit. The page turns weren't that bad and it's more arm movement lol.
I do the elliptical with hand movements. However I break my gym routine in half. I go after work and do weights, and then go home, and sometime later in the day go back for cardio with the DX. Haven't really figured out how to do weights while hanging on to the DX and I'm not about to leave it in a locked locker or locked car with all the break-ins. Maybe with the K2 I can just place it on my legs for upper body machines and hang on to it for lower body machines. How do you all manage yours at the gym? When I do the elliptical with the DX, time flies! |

May I suggest an audiobook? Much less of a chance for nasty accidents with an expensive piece of equipment.

I guess some people just don't sweat. My perspiration would destroy any small device - after my workouts I look like I took a shower.

I use the K2 at the gym. I prop it on the book holder between the handlebars of the elliptical. It is always in a cover (I have an Oberon). I sweat but always bring a towel with me. I carry it in a case so don't have to touch it much.
I usually use the text-to-speech function, I can listen while reading with auto page turns. Or plug in the earphones but not use them, just read with the auto page turns. The robo reading voice is not great, but I can also listen (without the earphones) on my drive home, then get right back to the page I was on after my shower. If the book I'm reading has TTS disabled, I switch to another book (I usually have more than one going at a time). I don't wear glasses at the gym; I increase the text size. I've been using it this way for about a year (K1 then K2). No drops or mishaps. I do not take it when weightlifting. Before that, I was street-running and used an iPod with music or audiobooks. My local library has free downloadable iPod-compatible audiobooks. Audiobooks are much better quality, of course, than TTS, but it's not so easy to find your place if you want to later switch to a "text" book. The few times I've had to leave my K2 in my car for a short period, I locked it in my trunk. I have had my car broken into, but never (yet) my trunk. Hope this helps. I'm having some of the same issues. It usually lives in my purse, in its case. But when the temp outside is nearly 100 degrees, I can't just lock my purse in the trunk as usual. Everything melts, including makeup, ballpoint pens, and e-ink screens. So I have to bring it in with me and leave it in my bag beside the pool.
About a month ago, a thieving lifeguard was messing with my bag. I yelled at him and he dropped it. My reader didn't break, but the $70 lighted cover broke. There were not any witnesses, except for my husband and I, so the univ is refusing to reimburse me for the cover. I just can't come up with a good solution to hot weather and leaving it someplace secure. |

Does the styrofoam do better than an Igloo? Stuff melts pretty fast in the Igloo.

The Omaha Steaks coolers are incredible.. designed for dry ice, NOTHING gets into those things. The styro is substantially thicker than other cheapie coolers. I suspect half the cost of an Omaha Steaks purchase is needed to cover the cost of the cooler and dry ice....

That seals it for me then! Poor Tim, I guess he will have to eat mail-order steaks with me so I can get the cooler! LOL!

Fixed it for you!
OK, I'm going shopping for steak. I think my credit card offers a reward of some sort for buying them. Can't believe I remembered. Is it just me, or does everyone else always forget about those rewards type offers until after the purchase? |

Yep, after purchase is my usual time to remember
![]() I also have a temp control solution for my trunk, it's a tote that keeps cool things cool and warm things warm. I use it so my frozen groceries don't melt - I too live in a very warm climate. I haven't used it for my Kindle yet, but expect it would be good for that too. They have it on QVC now, if you search "expandable cooler tote" or item F06868. |

So I got a K2. I am addicted I tell you! I love it for the gym.
So yesterday was my last day of DX at the gym (break today, K2 tomorrow) and I'm walking away from the elliptical and have a feeling I forgot something... iPod Touch... check... wallet... check... keys... check... (all inside a fanny pack) ... OH, THE DX! Whoops! |

I don't take it for just that reason. Too much trouble to lug around during the weight portion of my workout, or to put it back in the locker or car.

IMO e-readers are too fragile for the gym environment. Or perhaps the gyms I go to are too crowded.
