Welcome to MobileRead Mike.

The PRS-505 is workhorse of a device, very dependable and very readable. There are lots of tips and techniques in the sub-forum dedicated to the device, or start asking here if you have any specific questions.

There are some rumours flying about that the PRS-505 and PRS-700 are going to be replaced by newer models. I don't know whether to believe them or not. If true, you may get a good deal on a 505, if untrue, you can't go wrong with a 505.

Always nice to welcome another Canadian to MR.

Mike, the Sony 505 is a great e-book reader! I was surprised to discover that it made reading even more fun than when reading paper books. (Sounds odd, I know, but most people find themselves reading more than ever!)

The MR forums are the perfect place for you to get information, ask (and receive answers to) questions you might have about the device, about e-books themselves, about converting formats to suit your reader, etc., as well as to just meet a nice friendly group of people who share a similar interest. It's also a great resource for downloading free e-books already in the proper format for your reader, as well as free software for converting books you might already have.

As long as your primary use for the reader isn't large technical PDF's loaded with graphics, the Sony 505 is a perfect choice! I've been using mine daily for almost 6 months now, and my only regret is that I have but 24 hours in my day to read.

Why not tell us a little bit more about your reading habits. This often leads to great suggestions and recommendations for and from everyone!

Welcome to mobile read Mike. First of all, I love Canada. Second, I love my 505. Have had it well over a yr. Just about everything I read now I read on that. I did however end up in Borders yesterday (long story). Wasn't going to get anything. Generally I jot down what looks good and down load it but ran into House of Leaves which I don't think would work in ebook format (Forgive me for getting off subject). Mike, welcome, glad to see you here. I don't think you would regret a 505 purchase.

Welcome to Mobile Read Mike!
Can't believe no one mentioned this (although I'm slightly obsessed): two MR Meet Ups are coming in the next few weeks: one in Montréal, on August 8th, the other in Toronto, on August 15th (more information in both the links in my signature).
In both these events, we are going to get the chance, besides meeting other great MR members, to see and learn about devices owned by members.
Oh, I wish you are close to one of those cities!
