I have joined the ranks of the blue 505s. - Now what?
I got my 505 in last night, and loving it.
First up, what font sizes do you guys prefer? The books from Sony are just plain too big. Even on Pride and Prejudice's smallest setting, it is too big for my tastes. The default for calibre with the 505, with 5 pixel margins, and believe size 10 base font is still a hair too big (I keep it on the smallest setting still), but much better. I've heard some say there is a performance difference between epub and lrf. Any comments? Also, is there any way to speed up calibre's performance on converting? I have a bunch of Lit, OEBZip, RTF, and HTML books I've made, or got from various sites over the years (I still love the large amount of free ebooks available), but it just seems so long to convert them. I'm used to clit, which takes a second or two, for what calibre does in two minutes. |

Hi, fellow blue 505 user!
You have good color sense! ![]() As to converting and all the other stuff , as you roam the rooms you will pick up good tips and pointers. I'm the other way, I like big font sizes but in calibre you should be able to make them big or small going down to 1 font size. On side of Convert EBOOKS icon (arrow) is batch settings and you can set it up the way you like it and experiment with it. You can make it as small as you like or as large as you like. Another option after you get used to your reader is doing font hacks, which are easy , and you can pick a small and thin type if you want to put more on page. Again I hacked it and put on BIG and Bold! ![]() You can batch convert 100 or 200 at a time , now if they are big ebooks yeah it will take a while, but not bad. This site has lots of them for free download. epub and lrf are both great formats. Since I did put hacked font on it, I am using more lrf lately. They both are good. And there are lots of options on batch convert, about how you want page set up and other features. Trial and error. |

Was there really another color choice? Gaudy red? Bland grey? Pfft. Bold blue for me, baby.
The font that they use, I am pretty happy with. I really like that style font, and looks very similar to what I use in FBReader on my tabletpc and N800. It is more like print I am used to for books. I'm just trying to fine tune the size. I've been doing batch conversions, it just sucks that a batch that used to take minutes with a bit of bash scripting and clit, takes hours in Calibre. I really love Calibre otherwise. What I need to try and figure out next, is converting a few large PDF tech manuals (one is 7mb and 800 pages, and the other is twice that). Those are the only PDFs I really use, and it just wasnt nearly as nice when I had to use it today at work. Also made me miss having a search feature. I really haven't seen really any difference between epub and lrf on the reader itself, and I prefer epub since it is an open format, so I can easily trade the files between my devices. |

Good colour choice another member in the blue club.
Ah, you must have young eagle eyes as I always have to use medium or occasionally large size on Sony ebooks to read comfortably and I use base font size of 12 with calibre when I convert books so I can leave the font size at small. |
