Terabyte Free Email
Wow, I thought I had a lot of storage with 2.5gig in my Gmail account. Now there's new of a service with a terabyte of storage. I remember just a few years ago when large companies had about a terabyte of total storage in their systems. The biggest data warehouses used to be measured by gig. I still can't (affordably) add a terabyte to my desktop. But I have access to a terabyte of free email storage. Attachments can only be 10meg, but I suppose that's necessary to keep people from using this just for free storage of file.
I'm still wondering what the catch is. No need for me to move because I like Gmail and Yahoo Mail, but for those who are interested, here's the scoop straight from the source... MailNation Solutions developed after years of exhaustive competition in the Emailing industry. Small email companies have come and go, while large email companies such as Gmail (R), Hotmail (R), and Yahoo! Mail (R) have dominated. Privacy policies with major companies are weak, reliability remains questioned, and features are lacking. Attachment sizes remain small and restrictive, and ads plague certain email systems. It is for this reason that MailNation Solutions was started. We provide a completely free service with an ad-free and simple to use interface. Unlike most free email services, we offer you with an exhaustive list of free features, designed with you and your daily busy life in mind. We offer this to you, completely free of charge, with an impressive uptime, and a very stringent privacy policy. -Vincent Liou. President and Chief Executive Officer |

Umm, how are they going to stay in business? They don't seem to have a paid product.

Interesting. It looks like their page is here:
http://www.mailnation.net/ I'm sure like Google's Gmail they are counting on the fact that most people won't need anywhere near that amount of storage. |

...to answer the above question, have a look to their FAQ, which states:
How is MailNation Solutions funded? 1. Primarily, we are funded by investors, and some of our revenue is derived from donations. 2. Companies that choose to outsource to our services, of course, would have to pay. This is our primary source of financial backing. We are good at what we do, so quite naturally, companies come to us for their emailing needs. Cheers Checker |

I checked into this service yesterday... did a quick google search for "Vincent Liou", the President of MailNation and found some interesting links suggesting that it may in fact be too good to be true, more likely a scam. Supposedly he has done this sort of thing several times already, presumably to collect user info, and running it all off a DSL line no less!

If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. I checked out some of the information available about "Vincent Liou" courtesy of Google, and it does sound like there might be some "issues" with his email service.
Personally, I wouldn't trust my email to any new service that comes out of the blue and isn't established as a reputable business. I'm particularly suspect of ones with obvious typos and grammatical errors on their front page. |
