Q7 - error message - help me install Firefox
I'm trying to use apt-get to install Firefox. I get the following error message:
You don't have enough free space in /var/cache/apt/archives/. That folder contains deb files that I cannot delete through the file manager. How do I fix this? Thanks. |

Can you delete them from the command line? If I had to guess, I'd say those are the temporary files for when you download/install something from the package manager. If that's the case, they should be ok to delete -- but don't quote me on that.
![]() PS: To remove them from the command line, navigate to the correct directory and type "rm *.deb" If it says something about permissions, type "sudo rm *.deb" |

Try changing the permissions of /tmp/orbit-user: "sudo chmod 775 /tmp/orbit-user"
Or if you want you could send it to me and I'll fix it.... ![]() Last edited by wermy; 06-24-2009 at 04:45 PM. |

Apparently the problem is that it's having trouble creating anything in the folder /tmp/, not just /tmp/orbit-user. I changed the permissions on /tmp but it didn't help.

This may be of use to you:
http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=41245 He says what he did was remove everything in his home directory (rm -rf $HOME/.*), but this also removed all his configuration he had done. Not sure what this will do to your system, but it may be worth a try. Might want to just move it to the desktop or something, though, so it's not just gone forever. |

Are you out of space on the drive that /tmp is on?
Needing to clean out space in your apt cache implies your drive is almost full, my guess is that firefox is trying to create files in tmp and running out of room. The command "df" should show you how much space you have. Last edited by markr; 06-24-2009 at 08:05 PM. |

I reinstalled the firmware, went through all the setup steps.
I'm posting from firefox. It's so slow. It's FF3 beta, so I should not be surprised. |
