Do you Have More Than One eReader?
I'm wondering about people who have 2 dedicated devices, say the Sony and the Kindle. Why do you have 2 (or more)? Did you get an additional one for a specific reason? Did you get rid of the old one?
My mom has taken over my Sony, and I'm thinking about either getting a new Sony or a Kindle, but I'm curious about people who end up with 2. Last edited by disney_mommy; 06-22-2009 at 12:50 PM. Reason: Took out a line about the dupe thread. |

I have a CyBook Gen3 (6" screen) and an iRex DR1000 (10") screen. The iRex, with its larger screen, is better for reading at home; the Gen3 I take with me whenever I go out. I can read the same Mobi books on both.

I have a Sony 505 and an iPhone. This way, I can get the same book on both so I am never without an ereader as I always have my iPhone on me. Thus if I get stuck somewhere, I always have my book with me

Yes, I can read my Mobi books on my Windows Smartphone too, come to that. I rarely do, but it's nice to know that the capability is there "just in case"

I have a Sony; my daughter (who's 13) has a Jetbook; I expect there'll be some back-and-forth borrowing; the Jetbook will read .mobi, and the Sony is much better at PDFs because it does reflow. I also use a Clié occasionally; I love the small size reader.
I'm considering getting the Astak mini when it comes out; I'd like a 5" reader. I'd probably still use both; the 6-inch is just barely large enough for me to read letter-size PDFs, but a smaller device would be easier to carry around with me. |

I have a Kindle 2 and my Treo phone. I read Mobi files on both, although I only use the phone rarely, it's nice if I'm 'stuck' somewhere. I had a Sony 505, but didn't really see the point in having two 6" readers. I wouldn't mind a smaller "pocket" reader at some point.

I use my smartphone for reading all the time. At home I use the Sony but I can't sneak a read with that at work. That's where the smartphone comes in.

For now, one reader is fine for me. I figure I can only read on one at a time! And luckily I've been able to find all the books I want for the Sony. I currently have 68 books on my 505, NONE of which are read. (I went through the other and deleted all the books I've already read from the 505 and just have them on my computer now). Not to say that someday I won't have two readers. I am kind of interested in that cool-er reader. I also want to get an ipod touch, though not necessarily to use as an ebook reader. I guess that would be an added feature.

I have both a 505 and a 700. The 700 was an impulse purchase that I found on Craigslist shortly after getting the 505. I figured that one would stay on my nightstand and one would travel with me. So far, the 505 gets used and the 700 sits in the nightstand, lonely and unloved.
I agree with dg, that having both a Kindle and a Sony provides the user with the advantages of each device. Even having two Kindles with Whispernet where you could easily move from one device to the other reading the same book makes sense. However, having the two Sony readers so far has been kind of a waste for me. One of these days I'll need to find a new, loving home for the 700. It deserves a better life. |

I have an Ebookwise 1150, a K1, a Sony PRS 505 and PRS 700, and an iPod touch.
I use the PRS 700 and iPod Touch exclusively now, but the K1 and eBookwise 1150 are handy for testing ebooks made for each device and uploading on MobileRead. The PRS 505 is a handy backup in case something {shudder} should happen to the 700. |

I have a PRS-700. My wife still uses her PRS-500, but is thinking of upgrading when the next interesting unit comes out.

We're a one e-reader household atm, if my husband in the future decides he wants an e-reader then we'll address it at that time as to which one is the best device for him.
Disney do you and your mom share books? If so unless you want to resort to 3rd party tools you need to stay with compatible readers if you read books that aren't considered part of the public domain. When the time comes for me to replace my K2 if it's still functioning I most likely would give it a family member or friend that doesn't have an e-reader (assuming by that point my husband has his own e-reader ![]() |

I've had as many as 5 at once!
I like having readers for different purposes. E.g. a "knockaround" one, or one with a specific genre of books on it, or one I can leave in the office and one to have at home so I don't have to carry a reader with me all the time. I know it's kind of weird to use them that way. Currently i have one Sony 505 and no others, but I'm tempted to get a Sony 700 for the annotation features. I hate to admit it but i sent the Kindle back. Too bulky for me. |

I have four, though one of those - a Sony 500 - is because I foolishly forgot to send it back for the rebate (or rather I thought I had, then - too late - discovered I hadn't).
The ones in use are: Sony 505, Kindle 1, and my new Kindle DX. ![]() I read a lot, but I also re-read a lot, so the 505 (with the integrated light) stills sees use. Edited to add: The ones listed above are my dedicated ereaders. I do read on my iPhone 3G (no 'S' yet). There are some great apps for the iPhone, including the Kindle one, the Ereader one, and Stanza. Last edited by Studio717; 06-19-2009 at 06:20 PM. |
