Display broken?

Hi,

Someone i sold my old prs 505 (us version) has got a problem with the display. See the attached image.

A Reset didn't help. The reader is charged.

Have you got an idea how bad the failure might be? There will be a problem with the guarantee as we live in Germany.

I think that it might be not too bad becaus the whole display seems to "work" but it does not show the right things on the right position... Could it be possible that theres only a problem with the plug of the display or something?

Has it been unused for a long time? If so a long charge might help. What sounds like a similar problem is discussed in this thread and there are a couple of different alternatives.

I will check that, but she said, that the reader was charged before correctly.

I'm the new owner of that Reader with that foolish display problem philippd talked about! Thank you Philipp for your exemplary assistance after buying that reader via ebay from you!
Well - back to the problem. Philippd send the picture from my reader which shows two times a half page of every page I select. I' able to see all pages, I can access every storage internal and from sd-card. The red power light is on when I switch on the reader. I see everything on the reader - only the design is wrong.
Philippd supposed maybe a loose connector or anything like that? Last I did with that reader before the problem occured was copying a book to the sd-card and leaving the reader on usb for half an hour. Then I put the reader in a thin bag which fell down from the table to the floor. From that moment the problem occured. So I think I can only contact a Sony Service in Germany or do you know anything better? Thank you for trying to help! rossario

I forgot to tell that the left side of the view is black and white - the right side ist white and black.

Hi rossario and welcome to MobileRead.

I hope you can get your problem sorted out. It looks very much like the problem this person was having -- with a split screen. It appears the problem was a faulty screen controller which would have to be replaced.
