Kindle and Fictionwise
I am a new Kindle owner. When I order ebooks from Fictionwise, what format should I request? There appear to be several options - mobipocket, microsoft reader, adobe reader. Thank you

Multiformat Kindle Compatible (mobi) Don't buy any secure formats. (mobipocket, microsoft reader, adobe reader are secure and won't work on Kindle)

If you can't find what you want in the Kindle store, you can download LIT (Secure Microsoft Reader) books. LIT is the easiest to format shift.

Hello Annie and Welcome to MobileRead. We're glad you're here.
I have spent a decent amount of money at Fictionwise, buying books to read on my Kindle. I made the decision to only purchase books in "multi-format" because they are DRM free and I can read them on any subsequent Kindle or other reader I might choose to purchase in the future. For secured books, I prefer to buy them from Amazon instead of Fictionwise (as long as they are available @ Amazon) because they are linked to my Kindle and the price tends to be a bit better than the same book from Fictionwise. If I were to buy a secured book from someone other than Amazon, I'd have to de-DRM to read it on my Kindle unless I were able to supply the PID of my Kindle to the DRM server on that site. Some of the DRM servers have been coded to reject a PID from a Kindle, so that's become a non-option in some case -- and one I just choose not to have to worry about. |
