Yeah, its been a busy year. The mobi vs adobe war is in full swing with mobi format looking a little unsteady on its legs. Quite a big turn around from a year ago when it was the dominant format that nearly all ebook readers supported except Sony and now the pendulum has swung the other way.
Still, my Sony reader is nearly a year old and there has been no major advances that make me want to switch yet. Ask me again in another year's time. ![]() |

What will be the next 150 days in e-books? Any ideas?
I guess: 1. Amazon will start offer multi-format, DRM-free ebooks readable on any e-reading device. 2. B&N will produce eBook reader (Kindle Killer) 3. Apple will buy Cool-er eBook reader and start sell it under brand iPod read ... |

2. B&N could do this but do they want to as the market is getting rapidly crowded with new entrants. It looks like the hardware with be eventually given away or rented and a subscription service such as monthly paytv will emerge. 3. Yeah, as soon as Apple release an ebook reader 90% of the world will ditch their existing devices because Ipods, Iphones and other I-devices are so much cool-er than other devices right ![]() |

Next 150 days (pure guesses)
Five inch E-ink liseuses come out under 200$. Likely manufacturers Astak, BeBook, possibly others. Barnes & Noble / Fictionwise announce they have recruited or designed an intermediary liseuse, and will begin actively promoting the e-book section of the bookstore. Apple demos a tablet, "iGrab," capable of reading e-books, among many other things. A sort of "iPod Touch on steroids" it is heavier than e-ink liseuses, with a shorter battery life and it tends to run hot, but it can surf the web and run video and other iPod like apps. Crystal ball is unclear on whether it has WiFi or 3G; if the latter, regular ransoming is necessary to keep reader functioning. Ransom on the order of 50$ per month. Amazon DX starts shipping. First screens are glass; reader requires careful handling. |

Yes, it's been quite a year till now ... I'd like to add March, 11th and the release of the Sony PRS-505 in Germany.
This really launched a new surge in online shops distributing eBooks, namely some of the larger book shops in Germany, with thalia.de and libri.de and weltbild.de announcing the first epub-Cybook. We'll have to see how lasting the effect will be. But it's been quite a busy year. ![]() Quote:

What is the most popular ebook store and eBook format in Germany? Do you know any ebook stores that sell DRM-free books in Germany? For example Herder sell DRM-free ebooks on http://www.herder.de/ website but I'm not sure how many titles available. |

Did Sony actually implement/announce third party advertisement, or they were just thinking of might bes in future?

Hopefully the Wizpac Txtr will be released in the next 150 days. I'm really looking forward to that device. It's what is holding me back from buying a prs-505.
