Another PRS500 Battery Thread

I've looked through the forums a fair bit and have found out a lot about the PRS500 and ebooks in general. After spotting a thread about changing the battery in the 500 I decided to have a go as I was only getting around 400 page turns per charge and assumed my old battery was dying.

I picked up a new battery and installed it using the guide. Put the reader back together and everything worked However, after a full charge I still only seem to get around 400 page turns with the new battery.

I am generally reading pdf or lit files that I have converted to lrf using calibre. They are text only so no fancy graphics to draw. Also have the latest Sony firmware installed.

Does anyone have any clues as to why my page turns might be so low? Could it just be that I am not reading much each day so my 400 page turns is over a couple of weeks?

Thanks
Matt

Check to see if the MP3 player got turned on. This was a problem with some who inadvertantly turned it on and it really chews the battery life and is difficult to ascertain that it is off. Once I got mine off for sure I never turned it back on. Just a thought.

I don't think the MP3 player is on. I do not have any mp3's on the reader and when I go to the top menu it doesn't show anything playing. Is there anything I need to do to ensure it is fully off?

Cheers

I have the 505 so I'm not sure about the 500, but I know that unless the unit is completely shut down that it will continue to use some battery power. Plus, it uses power when the pages are turned.

So, you are really talking about battery power lasting 2 to 3 weeks even though you only read 400 pages during that time.

** More experienced members or a 500 owner -- please correct if this is not true for the 500. Thank you.

Thanks for the info. I think I just need to get used to needing to charge it regularly. Just seems a bit wrong to need to charge it after such a short amount of actual reading.

I agree. You should be getting a lot more page turns. The battery could be fine and it could be a problem with the internal device that senses the battery's charge. If you get really desperate, you could rig up an external battery pack thru the charger port. Four aaa batteries should do the trick.
