Howdy!

Howdy! I am new here. I am happily married with three basic aspirations in life. God. Read. Write my poetry, so one day I wamt to write a book of poetry and have it published. I think it would be cool to be able to read my poetry, stories, the Bible, anf tote it around on a Kindle2. Hope I win, cause I'm on a fixed income and cannot afford to buy one. I also enjoy playing video games and petting my dog, anre as she is. Her name is Callie, She is about 4 or 5 now. She is part Cocker Spaniel and part long haired Dachschund,so I'd say you could say she is a cocksin.

Hello MJG956 -- and welcome to MobileRead.

I am often tempted to ask people where the numbers at the end of their nicknames, handles, or e-mail addresses come from. For me, I have an alias of Elsi123 that I use on those sites which require a name longer than four characters. The 123 isn't just because those are the first 3 digits when one is counting. No indeed. Rather, they are the last part of the IP address I was given when I put a high-speed connection into my home with fixed IP so I could run servers from there. The company providing the IP connection even gave me a host name in their domain, combining my userID with the IP address -- elsi123.provider.net. Later, when I moved and could not get a fixed IP address, I put my servers at a co-lo site in Nebraska and purchased the domain of elsi123.net. So -- what's your story for the '956' at the end of your nickname?

I have a Kindle (1) which I've been using since February 2008. I've enjoyed it very much, particularly since my sister and two nieces are on the Amazon account with me and we all share the Kindle books. Fortunately, we read many of the same books, so each purchase gets enjoyed by a couple of people.

I also have a Sony PRS-505 which I bought to allow me to view the books that I was creating with the software tools I had downloaded. Also, there are some really good books in Sony format which have been uploaded to the library here that I wanted to read. Since there are no tools to convert *from* the Sony LRF format, I figured I'd buy a used Sony reader to make it easy for me to just read without having to spend any time creating the books for my Kindle from the original source text.

You should be able to get a used Kindle (1) or a used Sony 500/505 reader for a lot less than the newer versions of these readers are going for. There are quite a number of other readers available in the USA, with prices ranging from very low (the EBookwise 1150) to very high (the iLiad). Those with the lower price tend to have fewer features, though the folks who own the EBookwise are quite loyal to their readers!

But even if you don't have a hand-held reader, you can get the software for your computer that will allow you to read any of the free books which can be downloaded from this site, Feedbooks, Baen's Free Library, or ManyBooks.

We're glad you've joined us at MobileRead. Feel free to share some of your poetry in our Writer's Corner.
