The german epub version of the Cybook
Here is what the new firmware of the Cybook present on the Weltbild-Cybook offers. Remember, this is only in Release Candidate status. There are pros and cons, so beware.
Pros: 1: The epub rendering works and seems to be rather fast 2: The Cybook is able to render fully justified epubs 3: The PDF rendering is way faster and better than the old version 4: Folders are supported Cons: 1: Bad rendering with tables. Hopefully that's just a bug 2: Zooming in PDFs only going from 50-100% 3: No support for Mobis, Html or Text on this one so far 4: Seems not to be really stable for now 5: Cybook has been loaded with Mobi sample files Will be updated as soon as we know more. Thanks to all the fine users at the German forum that helped me with this. |

At the Weltbild website it's advertised with:
Liest pdf-, epub-, HTML-, txt-, jpg- und MP3-Formate So at least HTML and TXT should be working... |

Hmm, I can confirm, HTML works. I just copied some html files to the SD card and they're all listed in the library and of course I can read them. TXT don't work... :|

Maybe that why it's RC right ?
If you find bug, sends a mail to bookeen , it'll have a better chance at being fixed now than once the version is done. |

Could you post the firmware version of your Cybook please? (maybe there are already different versions of the new firmware)

1) better chance at being fixed than what? all the other things existing users sent them so far? 2) If *forgetting to put in support for two file formats they advertised* sounds like normal in a RC then our views of RCs differ slightly. RCs are - at least in my definition - feature complete which would mean that support for those formats would be there even though there might still be some bugs. Lack of txt support (how hard is it to support unformatted text? what could you possibly mess up with that?) would be absolutely hilarious if it was an April's Fool. Sadly, it sounds like it's actually the truth. Remind me to wait for Service Pack 2 before installing their next firmware. If they manage to break txt and html support (which is no small feat, given that it's been working before and most likely nothing's been changed in that trunk) and make PDF reading worse than before while adding epub and folder support then I shudder at what they will do to our current firmware if they ever release the new one... |

If on the other hand testing is done so sloppily that they don't even check the older features then I wonder what's the explanation for the long delay with their firmware. According to the blog they are testing since late March so I wonder what exactly is taking them so long if they don't even test txt support... |

The firmware version that you currently have is not able to read txt and html file, you will be able to read them again with the next firmware upgrade, coming in a few weeks. Sorry for the trouble occasioned by this momentary incompatibility. |
