New to MobileRead (but not the industry)

Hi Everyone,

I've done a bit of lurking here, but this is my first post. I've been involved in eBook production since 2001, and now spend most of my waking hours producing ePubs for major publishers. I have to say it's quite interesting reading forum posts about books that I worked on!

I started out in typesetting and pre-press, but quickly got involved in XML and eBooks. I'm hoping that standards like ePub will be fully supported in the eBook world (please don't make me create PML any more!). I hope that publishers will put as much care and craft into their eBooks as they do their print books, and I hope reading systems will finally gain the formatting capabilities of ten-year-old web browsers!

hi dave and welcome ! we're always very happy to have professionals around to join in the discussion ! especially professionals supporting well-crafted epub books.

i can assure you that your wishes are shared by MANY of us around here (fervently), and it's really encouraging to see that you've got your priorities in good order !

hopefully the rest of the industry will soon follow you.

we'd love to see you share your experience with epub creation. maybe you've got a few tips that might interest us. what books have you made ?

Hello Dave and welcome to MobileRead. As Zelda says, we're delighted to have professionals join us. There are quite a few folks hanging out here who have tried our hands at making electronic books. Just check out the large inventory of books available for download. Our collection of books in ePub format is growing, but it will be a while before those catch up with the very large set of books in Sony's .lrf format.

It's nice to have you with us.

I am very glad that you are here and that you might join some of our discussions and that you might provide insight into the industry.

Sometimes when we ranting and raving here, we secretly hope that somebody that has power to change things would read our rants and raves ;-)
Unfortunately there are quite a few "e-books" out there that provide us with exceptional material for our rants.
