Hello from Iowa, USA

I received my first e-reader, the Kindle 2, yesterday after coveting one for the last year. My wife gave it to me for our 5-year anniversary--my whining paid off.

I'm anxious to start using it for books from Amazon, but also plan on using the information in this site to get books from other sources and learn how to do some of the needed conversions. I have a Mac, so hopefully it's compatible with most/all of the programs.

This forum looks like its got a lot of good information and help.

Iowa's a state? I thought it was a city. Damn, I need to get off the East Coast more.

Believe it or not, we're a whole state with towns, cities, and a whole lot of corn. I live in Norwalk, which is just on the south edge of Des Moines.

Thanks for the welcome. This looks like a great place to get with like-minded people who love to read and enjoy or e-readers.

Ah, the Des Moines area-- some of my best friends have lived in Des Moines. Glad you're here-- if nothing else, to educate our East Coast friends on the statehood of Iowa :P

Welcome clones! i sometimes get nostalgic for the mild winters in Iowa...

Be careful of Grace Krispy, she lives in Hawai'i and wants to move to Wisconsin. Definitely a bit unbalanced there...

I hope you enjoy your Kindle as much as I do mine!

Thanks for the welcome, everybody.

To those who are reminiscing about the mild Iowa winters, it must have been a long time since you've been through one...Hawaii or anywhere south sounded pretty good in January and February. I got a new snowblower and even with that, the snow was a chore.

I've almost finished my first book on the Kindle & have a couple freebies off the Baen site. I'm really learning about all of the free stuff out there.

Well, when I moved to Texas, I used to laugh at my family when they whined about winter. Now that I've moved to Wisconsin, I get laughed at by my family when i whine about winter. Not that I ever whine about it... Just ask anyone here.
