Battery going weak...

Hi All!

I have had my Cybook since March 2008. I have used it quite a bit and I am still very pleased with it. It seems lately that the charge does not last as long. My practice was that whenever it showed 80% I would charge my Cybook...

Anybody has experienced the same thing ???

You should use it until the battery is completely empty and fully recharge it after that - the battery-meter can become inaccurate sometimes.

Also, battery don't like being full all the time. So, yours would eventually suffer if you keep recharging.
Try emptying it (like 10-20 %, don't let a battery discharge fully) a few times. See if it gets better.

That's not true for Li-ion/LiPo battery. This type of advise are preliminary for NiMh and NiCd battery pack. One of the major feature and advantages of LiIon/LiPo battery are that they can be discharged and charged anytime you want. With the exception that they do not like to be empty, make sure you charge them whenever they are - but as Godzil said, they "love" to be fully charged!

Theses values are not valid for all types of battery, only LiIon and surely LiPo. NiCd for exemple should be stored completly discharged (cf: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nickel-...ery#Advantages )

I've been using my Cybook for about the same amount of time as Captaingeorges. My battery is also now failing (which is how I caused the flash wiping issue I posted recently). It used to be I could go a week between charges. Now it seems like it goes from 100% to 20% (and then 0) in about 2-3 days.

I have been nearly completely discharging it before recharging over the year.

One observation I have is that the power really started failing in December which is when I was reading while in Zurich and catching busses and trains when the temperature was c. 0°C. I wonder if operation in the cold weakened the battery somehow.

The battery will discharge faster in cold weather, but it certainly shouldn't have any permanent effect on it.

At least one benefit of the CyBook over some of its rivals is that you can simply get a new battery if the old one does "die"!
