Dia dhuit ón Eire! Hello from Ireland!

Hello from a very sunny (for once) Ireland!

I recently bought a Sony Reader PRS-505 and was told by a friend to download calibre. It works grand for her but I can't get it to convert files to a usable format for me.
I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong!

I have books downloaded with .rar at the end. Can anyone tell me if it's possible to convert these to lrf or pdf? Is there some program other than Calibre that would be better?

in advance to anyone who can help!

Hello! Welcome to Mobileread!

.rar extensions are like a zipped file, you need Winzip to extract the files then you can convert it. If you google Winzip you should be able to find their site quite easily and download their trial.

hope it helps

Hi Miss Direction and welcome to MobileRead. Good luck with Calibre. I've used it quite a bit and find it very useful

Thanks alphapheemail, I'll thought I might have needed winzip alright but wasn't sure. I'll do that so, much appreciation!
Thanks also cassidym, calibre is definitely much better than the one provided with the Sony software so as long as I can resolve my disagreements with my rar files I think I'll be sticking with it!
