Interesting battery problem, has anyone seen this

Hi,
My DR1000s was showing 50% battery last night, which looked a little bit suspicous to me, since it was not used since the last recharge, which was a day ago. So I let it drain by leaving it open and turning off the auto shut down.
In the morning, it was shut down, and when I opened it, the battery looks fully charged!
The problem is it is not! the device shuts down in 20 secs or so, and does not start again since the battery is empty. But when I plug it to the computer and boot it, the battery indicator shows full, and it does not show the symbol on the battery indicator that says charging.
I'll leave it like this for a couple of hours, but if it does not work, it means I have a device which won't charge since it thinks the battery is full, and a battery that is empty! Do the math, I can only use it connected to the computer. I'm just about to go away for a week.. hold on a minute!

Ok, just when I was writing this, the screen flashed, and the battery indicator turned into empty, and its charging. Thanks for watching this live broadcast from London, we're now back to MobileReader forums...

Look here. Same problem. I've opened a ticket, cause it charged only 30 minutes. Then it shows the full battery again.

iRex has said that sometimes you need to leave it plugged in for a couple minutes before it'll start charging. Was that it, or had you left it sitting for longer than that before it finally started?

Hi there,
It took a couple of minutes (less then 5 I guess) for the device to realize that the battery was empty and it should be charging.
Scared me quite a bit actually, since I'm about to hit the road and I'll need to do lots of reading!
Things seem to be normal now.

Kind regards
Seref

it could also be the new firmware upgrade , since iRex explicitly pointed to battery charge problems in the first few cycles , did you recently upgrade to 1.5?

actually, yes. I did not have many charge cycles since the upgrade. definitely less than 10. things seem to be ok now. I've done reading and annotation for about 6-7 hours, and battery dropped to 20+%. Not too bad.

As KingDani mentioned, one of the things that got updated in the 1.5 firmware was a new battery driver from their supplier, which reports the charge levels... etc. They said after you apply the 1.5 update it will take a couple of charge cycles for the new driver to become calibrated to the battery. That's probably what was causing your issue.
