Greetings from Australia!
i have been investigating e-books for about a year and finally decided that the Kindle2 was worth investing in!
after many attemps to buy it off amazon i discovered that its only available in the US!! after reading various methods to actually buy one outside the US i decided it wasn't worth the hassle of trying to go through the registration process and the various hacks to download the books....
my next choice was the sony reader prs 700.....however i dicovered this device is not compatible with a mac!
after a bit more research i have had a look at:
1-booken cybook gen 3 e-book
2-onyx book reader
does anyone have any opinions about the way to go?

Hello nokku, pickup a cheap Windows PC for the Sony. people give them away here on recycling sites, not sure if there are similar things there

You can use the Sony with a Mac. You just can't use the Sony eBook Store. And, not being in the US or Canada you can't use that anyway. If you do plan to read DRMed books you will need to get access to a Windows PC to just register the Sony to your Adobe ID. Once you do that you are fine with the Mac.
That said, of the devices you listed only the CyBook is for sale now. There is also the BeBook.
