Greetings from Dubrovnik

Just to let everyone know, I am currently in Dubrovnik and very much enjoying myself here (i.e. growing lazy and fat). Since Google recently updated their satellite database, you can now find Dubrovnik in Google Maps as well:

Trust me, it is even nicer than the map suggests!

Gorgeous pics on the flickr site. Marvelous looking city. You speak any Croatian Alexander? Although it looks as if it's quite a tourist friendly area so I doubt you would need to.

Will you be snapping any pics yourself? And what are you reading while you're away? That is if you can tear your eyes off the scenery.

On second thought forget my questions and enjoy yourself!

Those pics are absolutely amazing. It seems like it would be so nice to live in a place like that. And on the Google map, it looks like still so much undeveloped land. It makes you wish you could buy some...

The map is somewhat misleading because what you see north of the city is a mountain chain, so it's not really as flat as it looks.

Glad you liked those Flickr pictures... I shot these last year and the year before. I'll make sure to upload some nice ones from this year again!

I speak somewhat Croatian... I understand it better than I do speak. I am half-Croatian, so I feel obliged to improve my knowledge of this language one day. Right now there are a lot of US Americans in town, I guess it is already holiday season for some. Europeans, like Germans and Austrians usually don't come here in hordes before mid-July.

Reading right now Longitude by Dava Sobel, and The Liveship Traders by Robin Hobb. The only problem is that I don't know if my PDA will survive the heat on the beach. Even in the shade it isn't exactly cool

Hi Alex - what about doing some sports in CRO, for example jogging before 7 a.m. or spending lunch time in a "fitness park"? A nice beach shape will be more than welcome by Dubrovnik's ladies community...Greets Daniel

I just downloaded Google Earth and it is so much fun to use

Especially when you tilt the map into 3D. Make sure to visit Dubrovnik, it's there (although surrounding areas aren't covered in detail yet). The coordinates: 42°38'26.44N 18°06'29.61S ... is there any better way of sharing locations in Earth?

-- ok found it... save the file in xml format with the extension .kml. I attached it here, all you got to do is load it into Google Earth!

Absolutely

Even at midnight the town the town is filled with people and music. I'll try to shoot some new photos in the next few days.

Looks like Paul Allen is in Dubrovnik right now with his small boat (which I believe is the biggest private yacht ever built).
