Memory Card Trouble
Hey guys, long time lurker, first time poster. I'm having trouble with my 505's memory card. It works just great... once. Then I can't put anything else on. I have to hard reset the reader and reload everything. I have an 8gb memory stick pro duo, and I'm pretty sure it's not a fake... I already looked into that. Any thoughts, advice, hunches? Voodoo spells?
Thanks in advance. |

Welcome out from lurkdom. Sorry, but the only thing I know about the memory cards was using it last week to do PRSCustomizer. Then I put the fake card back in and went back to the books stored on the device. Anything more complicated than that is beyond me.

Memory trouble
This is link to what memory sticks work:
http://esupport.sony.com/perl/suppor...324&mdl=PRS505 From what I can see, the duo is not supported. But check it out for yourself. |

We stumbled on this post while checking out what sort of memory cards we need for my daughter's 505, and the link above has me a little confused. Am I reading those charts correctly? Does it really say that if I have anything with copyright protection it will not work on any of the cards? We have some mp3s she purchased at Amazon.com that she would like to put on a card to use with her reader. Do we have any options that will work? I assume these mp3s have DRM if purchased at Amazon, right?
Thanks for the input. |

I have no idea about copyright protection, but it looks like all of those work on the PRS-505. I have the duo mark 2, 8gb, since I'm a big fan of manga and I use my ereader mainly for that purpose. It's more enjoyable reading in bed.

Secondly. it doesn't say that anything with copyright protection will not work on any of the cards. Everything about copy protection on that page refers to MagicGate™ copyright protection technology, which is Sony's proprietary copy protection scheme. The ereader does not use MagicGate™, it's used mainly on their gaming systems and phones. So, no worries there either. Quote:
The Duo card should defintely be supported. That page is kind of confusing, but it does show support for Duo cards and lists pics of Duo cards. The manual I received actually says it only supports the Memory Stick Pro-Duo and Duo cards: ![]() Note that it says down on the bottom that operation of all Memory Stick Duos are not guaranteed. ariinya, is it Sony brand? Does it seem to work with other devices? (if possible to check) FWIW, I use an SD card and it works fine. Last edited by Renaldo; 03-25-2009 at 10:58 PM. Reason: For clarity |

I'm sorry, I can't check to see if it works with other devices... this is the only device I have! ^^; And yes, it's sony.

Could you try exchanging it? Maybe you got a rare lemon?

That's what I was thinking too. Have you tried putting those same files right on the reader and seeing what happens?

If I put them on the reader, they work perfectly. But if I want to put something else on my memory card, I have to do the hard reboot.

It sounds like a memory card problem. If the files work just fine on the internal memory, the files are fine and probably not causing a problem. I would return it or try a new one.

I would also try using a smaller gb card...I have a Pro duo and a micro SD and I've never had a problem with either of them. They are both only 2 gb, but I back-up my books and then re-back them up (I'm paranoid, what can i say?). One is a SanDisk (pro duo) and the other is PNY. I like the SanDisk better, but they both work fine.
