question re. reader a.c. charger

I just got my first reader and noticed that the charger receptacle looks the same as the one on my blackerry (world edition.)
Does anyone know if my blackberry charger will also work on the reader?

It is difficult to answer the question since you didn't identify which reader you bought. You cannot trust a connector size to be ok just because it fits. One exception to that rule is the USB connectors. They are always 5V.

You can look at the charger itself and may be able to figure out if it will work. The most important thing is the voltage output specified. You will need to compare the voltage output with the required input on your device. The second extremely important item is the polarity. Generally the center is positive and the shell is negative. This is normally shown with a little diagram showing a + in the center. This must match. If not you may be able to find an adapter at an electronic supply store like Radio Shack. This can also be a place to adapt other connector difference.

Finally, if the items in the previous paragraph are ok then you need to consider the current (amps, or milliamps mA). The value in the charger needs to be the same or larger than the requirements for the device. Otherwise you may overheat the charger.

By the way, this forum is not the proper place to ask your question as it is for software and eBook formats, not hardware. Once you figure out what kind of reader you bought you should re-ask the question is the forum devoted to that particular reader if you still need this question answered.

to where? Without a device type I don't know where to put it. It will likely just fade away quickly when the original poster asks in a more appropriate group. Unless of course people want to talk about it here

It belongs in the Sony 505 forum given that the poster specifies he has a 505 (or so he says).

Could be but I have not found that entry in the personal profile to be very accurate.

If you have a 505, no. It will actually drain the battery. The 505 charges via AC (the yellow port next to the miniUSB). Try a Sony PSP AC charger, they're cheap and easy to find. A lot of people here use them (including myself).
