This is how Amazon and the Kindle are always likely to win - they have a higher media penetration than any of their competitors. Kindle is increasingly becoming synonymous with electronic readers?

I've seen few media articles on the Cybook, Sony, iLiad etc.

Kindle has an advantage, for sure, but Amazon has made a few big blunders and missed a chance to really capitalize on their strength.

Good article, thanks for the heads up. Amazon has a lot of money to throw at advertising, and I have a feeling that the K2 is quickly gaining market share. The device is definitely expensive, but (for me at least) the convenience outweighs the hefty initial cost, and I have a feeling prices will go down in both hardware and ebooks.

Not in the next couple of years. They are going to beef up readers with new features thus justifying high prices, while stopping selling older generations.

Have there been any traditional advertisements for the Kindle? It has the top spot on Amazon's homepage which is a huge advantage but not really a budget buster in the ad department. Most of what I see is publicity: articles, interviews, etc.

It actually wasn't much of an article. It does, however, demonstrate the power of advertisement (lest we forget, Sony has a few bucks to spend on promotion... they simply choose not to). But then it goes on to point out the high price of e-books, not to mention the Kindle itself, which won't win too many converts.

Does anyone else think this is letting the fox in the hen-house?

Time is supposed to be an impartial 'news source' (though after the last election cycle its clear they are in the tank there), and this article praising the Kindle smacks of abuse of their journalistic position because they stand to gain from the sale of Kindles.

I see this article as a thinly veiled attempt to sell Time subscriptions on the Kindle.
