calibre now uses the Google Books API to get metadata

Hi all,

Just released calibre 0.5.2 with support for getting book metadata from Google Books in addition to isbndb.com. It works well for the kinds of books I have in my library, so try it out and let me know how it works for you.

I have the wrong access key in my field and now it just generates an error. I cannot figure out how to correct that key nor how to get it to go on to the Google search.

AMacD, I submitted a bug report on this and it's going to be fixed in the next release.

Question. For Google Books, Calibre only retrieves metadata if the ISBN is specified. It doesn't try to match the author/title. Is that normal behavior?

No it should be matching on title and author as well

Just tested it again and nothing.

These are the filenames of the ebooks I was testing. I have modified the regular expression so it correctly recognized the series and series index. No access key to isbndb.com has been entered (didn't feel like opening yet another account). Using Calibre 0.5.2 on Windows XP Pro SP3.

Eoin Colfer - Artemis Fowl 2 - The Arctic Incident
Eoin Colfer - Artemis Fowl 3 - The Eternity Code

it uses whatever is in the title and author fields in the edit metadata dialog.

Yep, the title and author fields are showing the correct information for all books when I click on edit. Calibre was even nice enough to fix the author sort (Eoin Colfer -> Colfer, Eoin, George Orwell -> Orwell, George).

However, everytime I click "Fetch metadata from server", I keep getting the following message:
"No metadata found, try adjusting the title and author or the ISBN key."
