Sedentary Reader

I rarely read while on the move (as a person...walking, etc.)

I still know I belong here at mobileread.com because I read a bit, and I do wish that the unfolding book e-reader were here. I have seen the implication that the second version of the OLPC will have that format. I like that because it will feel like a book in my hands, plural. I did buy a Rocket EBook long ago, but it never made me happy, and I have read a bit on my Palm Zire 72. I do read, but not really books on my laptop...though it doesn't sit on my lap where the fan would clog.

There are several options coming, though, and I have no doubt I will choose after reading the recommendations, recriminations and ruminations about each here in these forums.

One of my interests is the education market for e-books, e-texts, e-whatnot. It is clear that the right design (durable, long batt life, open format, etc.) has a real potential to help students with their backpack induced pain. I also like the idea that targeted material could be easily transferred in each class through the day so that the single e-book would also be the homework, study guides, references, classroom notes, etc. I don't see the market as units sold to schools. Rather, schools (district, state level?) would specify the models to be recommended so that parents could buy them (provision for the low-income to be determined)
