My dad bought me a kindle for my birthday to enable to read as much as I love - a lot of down time with Multiple Sclerosis. I love it and never leave home without it. The problem is that I'm techno challenged and all of this is a bit intimidating and ovwerwhelming at times. To be honest, I ran onto the MobileRead thing accidentally and am still very unsure of what exactly it's purpose is other than providing an avenue to obtain ebooks. So if there's anyone out there who would love to present some MobileRead for Kindle Dummies 101, I'll be right here waiting for some good teachin'! Thanks

Welcome to MobileRead, kris1128!
Just take a look at some of the forums here. We've got a little something for everyone. Yes, there are plenty of free books in a multitude of formats as well as software for creating those formats. Authors have a little corner where they can share their work. Of course, the free books in all of those formats would be pointless without devices on which to read them. And there are people who want to buy, sell, and trade those devices... Oh, and let's not forget about the Lounge, where people just hang out and talk about all manner of unutterable silliness. Hi Kris1128, welcome to MobileRead! Please share any questions you have about using the Kindle. I have both Kindle 1 and Kindle 2 and will be happy (along with other Kindle and non-Kindle owners) to answer your questions. That's what we're here for... to share the knowledge!

welcome Kris, to MobileRead.
You are going to love love love your K. First, we have lots of free books available here. Check the table under "e-books" You can sort by genre, author or title. You want the mobipocket format. Second, did you know, you can use your local public library's e-books on your Kindle? You just need to download the books to your laptop, run kindlefix.py and you can upload them to the K. They will expire after the loan date so , no harm no foul. Click on my linkys for the step by step guide, and ask questions when you need to. There are also more free books at www.feedbooks.com Realize all the free books are copyright free, which means most are from 'ancient' times, to you Im sure, but you'll find a lot of classic, well written stories. Enjoy the site and learn! ![]() |

1) Email the pdf to your Kindle by using the "yourkindlename@kindle.com" address, make sure your Kindle wireless is on. Amazon will convert the file for use on your Kindle and send it to the Kindle via Whispernet. See Section #2 of the Kindle Myths and Partial Truths wiki. 2) Use MobiPocket Creator (installed as the Publisher Edition). You'll be able to convert the pdf yourself then transfer it into the "documents" folder of your Kindle. Give one of those a try and if you need more help, just yell and we'll come a runnin'. |
