Going for a 6-month walk...

Just letting you all know that I will be offline soon. My husband and I are planning to hike (most) of the E2. We're going to begin on 1 April (no joke) in Middlesbrough (UK) and arrive in Nice (France) mid-September. Big hike Now, I'm *not* taking my Sony Reader as I don't feel like schlepping around a solar charger and all that. Also, I want to really go back to basics. No phone, no electronics other than my camera, no distractions, no internet cafes. I want some time out!

After this big adventure we'll be moving back to Australia, so big move too. In other words Big Year Anyway, it'll prolly be the end of the year by the time I'm back online. Let's hope there'll be some nice new readers (colour?) to drool over by that time!

Bye for now (I'll be back with a vengeance - count on it),

i'm most stunned by the idea of 6 months without a liseuse, but now that you mention it, a phone is hard to live without too ! we've gotten so dependent on technology these days... i have a friend who from time to time has an "unplugged day" : no computer, no telephone. it drives me mad just thinking about it but i wish i had the willpower to do that myself, it would surely do me good.

maybe if they start in early spring and it gets warmer as they go ? otherwise it seems to be sort of defeating the purpose...

I could survive without my phone (without problems at all), but not without my books...

Good luck with your hike! I'm not much of a walker, but I do love to ride my bike. I'm still planning to continue my ride down the river Rhine (done the Swiss part already, the German and Dutch part left).

And also good luck with your move to the other side of the world!

Not sure why you'd want to go live closer to Marc, though...

Boy I used to backpack with books and put up with a lot of ribbing from my friends! That is one of the reasons I got an ebook to begin with.

Anyway, sounds grand! Have fun!

4850 km in 6 months? That's about 30Km/day, not counting any detours to explore the places you'll pass by.

I wish I could have a 6 month holidays to do such adventures too

Bon voyage! And share the pictures when you come back

Wow! That's inspiring. The E2 site you linked to *almost* makes me want to get out the old backpack and start hiking. It looks like a huge and fascinating adventure. Good luck.
