OT: Free Acronis True Image 10 Personal Edition
No idea how long this offer is valid, but as of right now, if you use the following link and register, you'll receive a free serial number for Acronis True Image 10 Personal Edition (in case you didn't know, it's a popular hard drive cloning/backup app for Windows).

Thanks for info on this. This is recognized as one of the best.
They'll send me the registration code; however, where is the download for this version? This is the quote I got after registering: The new version of this product, Acronis True Image Home 2009, is now available to purchase from PC World stores. Thank you for registration Thank you for registering Acronis True Image 10 Personal Edition! Obviously, I don't want to purchase this; rather, I want the full version (free), and then register it. Their wording seems very misleading. Thanks, Don |

A word of caution: There have been a lot of reports of problems with version 10, including it not making a a proper recovery image. I've never used the product, although I considered it until I started reading the reports. The reports are only about version 10; they do not reflect problems with earlier or later versions.

Acronis is the reason why I lost my old backup of everything I collected before and during university. There was a bug in how they addressed the connected IDE drives, and because of this bug, my source drive got overwritten (including its partition table etc.).
SO, no Acronis products on my computer. I recommend Drive Snapshot instead: http://drivesnapshot.de/ It's a wonderful too, albeit not the easiest to handle especially when you have to create your own recovery CDs. |

I have a pocket disk drive (removable) in my PC, I switch around 3 in rotation to handle all of my backups.
I looked at Acronus a year ago (download a test version), but they wanted me to reformat my pocket drive in FAT format, which I can't do because I use it for other purposes and those need it to be in NTFS. I bit the bullet and moved up from Vista Home Premium to Vista Ultimate. Backups work great. Full Image, Full Backup, incrementals on Full Backup. Works like a charm. (One of the few charms there is about Vista!) I would recommend anyone who buys a new computer, and has a choice of which version of Vista they get, go directly to Ultimate from the start. Well worth the investment and no need to worry about backups anymore. WDE. |

MobileRead members: My advice - based upon my personal experience and the posting to MobileRead regarding this scam - is that you stay very far away from Acronis products. They are harvesting emails for reasons that do not appear to be ethical. Don |
