Hello from China - e-reader enthusiast, aspiring KOReader tinkerer

[joey5403]

Hello everyone,

I'm Joey, a developer from China. I've been lurking here for a while and figured it's time to say hi properly.

I've been an e-reader user for years - started with a Kindle, and when I discovered KOReader there was no going back. These days I read on an Android device running KOReader, and a Paperwhite 5 is on its way to me (I couldn't resist the modding potential - the jailbreak situation for recent firmware looks fascinating, and I have a lot of reading to do in the Developer's Corner).

Most of my reading happens when my hands are busy - commuting, chores, long walks - so I ended up writing a small plugin that reads the book text aloud with a moving underline, following along like an audiobook but with the book right there on the screen. It's my first serious KOReader plugin, and it's what made me appreciate how thoughtfully KOReader is put together. I'm hoping to learn more about the Kindle side of things here - the audio path on jailbroken Kindles is still a mystery to me, and this forum seems to be where the people who know hang out.

Outside of that: I work in software, I'm a slow but stubborn reader (mostly sci-fi and history), and I'm slowly working through the incredible amount of institutional knowledge this forum has accumulated over the years.

English isn't my first language, so apologies in advance if I phrase something oddly - happy to clarify. Looking forward to talking with you all.

Joey
