Hello everyone — glad to join MobileRead!

Hi everyone!

I'm a member of the NURSOVA software development team, and I'm joining the community under our NurViewer account.

We have a strong interest in e-book reading and digital reading technologies, particularly EPUB, PDF, dictionaries, annotations, and reading across different devices.

I personally use both Windows PCs and Android tablets, and I'm always interested in learning how other readers organize their libraries, read different formats, and make their reading experience more comfortable and efficient.

I'm here to learn from the experienced members of MobileRead, exchange ideas, and participate in discussions about digital reading.

I look forward to getting to know everyone and contributing to the community.

Thanks for having me!

Welcome to MobileRead!

As for me, I read books exclusively on my dedicated Kobo e-readers (e-ink is a must for me). I don't read books in different formats, only in epub these days - Calibre handles converting for me. Ditto for library organizing - I do that in Calibre, where I keep all my ebooks, most of them purchased from various stores throughout the last 15+ years.

Thank you for the warm welcome, Sirtel!

It's great to hear about your experience with Kobo e-readers and Calibre. I'm particularly interested in how experienced readers manage their e-book libraries and handle different formats.

During our own testing, we've encountered two recurring issues with EPUB files:

1. Complex EPUB rendering: Some EPUB files with complicated formatting or layouts don't display correctly in many reading applications. We've seen issues with layout, formatting, and overall rendering consistency.

2. EPUB-to-PDF conversion: We've also found that quite a few EPUB-to-PDF conversions using Calibre either failed or produced unsatisfactory results.

I'm curious whether you've encountered similar issues over the years, particularly when reading complex EPUB files on your Kobo devices.

And when using Calibre, do you mainly convert other formats into EPUB, or have you also tried converting EPUB files into PDF?

I'd really appreciate hearing about your experience.

Looking forward to learning from you and other experienced members of the community!

Perhaps this discussion could be moved elsewhere such as the ePub forum?

While I mostly read ordinary fiction novels, not books with complex formatting and layout, formatting problems and rendering inconsistency are unfortunately quite common, yes. I generally do some simple edits to html and css so that formatting is more or less consistent in all the ebooks I read (no matter on which device I read them - I've read on Kindles and in Android apps in the past).

As to PDF, keep it away from me. PDF is a very poor format for reading and so I avoid it whenever possible. Fortunately I have no need to deal with PDF files, all my reading is recreational.

Thank you, Sirtel, for sharing your experience! It's very helpful to know that formatting inconsistencies are still common, even with relatively simple EPUB books.

And thank you, DNSB, for pointing me to the ePub forum. That makes sense, and I'll continue any technical discussions there.

I appreciate the warm welcome and your helpful responses!
