column resizing
When showing book browser, editor, and preview panes, resizing one resizes all of them, especially on a smaller screen. Columns should be completely independent - dragging one border should not move another, ever. And there should be no width limits - if I want to temporarily make the preview take up most of the screen at the expense of the editor, I should be able to, without affecting the browser.

No, just change the allocations using the vertical resizing bars.
Or drag Preview away to become its own Window. |
