OpenInkPot 20120301 for the Hanlin V3ext / BeBook One – rebuilt image, tested

I recently brought an old Hanlin V3 back to life and wanted OpenInkPot on it, ideally the last daily build of 1 March 2012. The catch: only the image for the original V3 (64 MB) survives on the Wayback Machine. The V3ext image from that day was never archived. Flashing the V3 image on a V3ext gives you a white screen. The kernel boots, but it looks for the root filesystem in the wrong place.

So I rebuilt the missing image. OpenInkPot's own build script treats v3 and v3ext identically except for the kernel flavour, the JFFS2 eraseblock size and one version file. The rebuild therefore takes the 2012 V3 userspace and swaps in the V3ext kernel and modules from the archived V3ext daily of 2010-06-12. That is the same kernel package version, 2.6.29-39. It runs fine on my device.

I also fixed two small annoyances:

• Settings → Screen update now works. It was hardcoded to the N516 framebuffer.
• In FBReader the page keys now work in landscape mode, for the default 270° rotation.

Flashing works the usual way:

1. Put V3update.bin on a FAT16 SD card of at most 1 GB.
2. Hold "+" while switching on, release it after the beep.

Note that the internal storage gets reformatted. This image is for the V3ext only, which shows about 450–500 MB of internal storage over USB. It is not for the old 9 MB V3.
