Post The Entropy Trap: What Physics Knows that Markets Don't

Posting on behalf of the author's team.

Title: The Entropy Trap: What Physics Knows that Markets Don't Author: Mickey M. Maini, with a foreword by James Rickards Genre: Nonfiction, economics, monetary history, popular science Formats: Kindle and hardcover
Description

Markets are at all-time highs and the models say the economy is strong. The book argues that something underneath does not sit right, and that economics cannot see it because economics assumes systems return to balance. Physics does not. Push a glass to the edge of the table and it falls; it does not come back.

The Entropy Trap reads monetary history through thermodynamics and kinematics. Entropy explains why a currency, which is trust and nothing else, needs constant energy to hold together. The motion measurements borrowed from physics (level, velocity, acceleration and jerk) explain why price alone cannot tell a real recovery from a trap. The 1930 rally and the 1932 rally looked the same. One lost investors another 86 per cent. The other was the buying opportunity of the century.

The framework is tested against six monetary transitions across 3,000 years that had no contact with each other: the Bronze Age collapse, Rome's third century, the fall of the Han, the end of feudalism, the Long Depression of 1873 to 1944, and the cycle that began in 1971. The same five-stage escalation, monetary then fiscal then regulatory then political then military, appears in the same order every time. No debased currency in that record was ever restored.

The book ends with a portfolio structure, a playbook, and a condition report on where the current cycle stands. It does not forecast. In its own words, the framework does not predict, it detects.

The author spent two decades in global finance and emerging markets and now runs Solstice Laboratory, an independent research centre in Dubai. The book reached No. 1 in Amazon's Macroeconomics category.
