Vera firmware sideload went wrong at my hotel

Hey! I was in Taipei for work about three weeks ago, staying near Zhongxiao Fuxing. I wanted to update my Kobo Clara with the latest Vera jailbreak before heading home. The file was around 180 MB, so nothing too crazy. The hotel Wi-Fi kept dropping at around 90% though. Tried three times and ended up with three corrupted files.

I checked the checksums and the source files were fine, so it was pretty clear the connection was the problem.

After wasting most of two evenings on this, I decided to stop relying on the hotel Wi-Fi. I came across the MyBestSim eSIM comparator and used it to find a 5-day data plan I could activate straight from my phone. Setup was pretty painless, and I downloaded the firmware again over 4G from my room. No more disconnects, and the sideload worked perfectly on the first try.

Lesson learned for next time I need to move larger files while travelling. Public Wi-Fi is handy, but I wouldn't trust it for anything where a broken download means starting all over again.

Do you mean Kindle, not Kobo? Kobo do not need to be jailbroken.
